Pet Health Information and Links
With a few clicks and a quick Google you can find information and products online for most anything these days. But is that information or that product good, or smart, or relevant?
To take some of the guesswork out and in keeping with our philosophy that we exist for the best interests of your pet, we have compiled a list of links to information we trust and products/services we recommend.
General Information:
ASPCA Pet Care Tips and Guides: A wealth of pet care information, including the latest news, seasonal tips, and resources.
ASPCA Poison Control: Learn how to best avoid any poison incidents as well as what to do if your pet is poisoned.
Pet Medical Library (Veterinary Partner): Jam packed with information for every aspect of pet health from top to tail. A user-friendly site from the Veterinary Information Network, which is the main resource veterinarians use to access and share the latest information.
Spaying and Neutering: Oh yes, lots of good reasons – both health and humane. Five million dogs and cats are euthanized in animal shelters each year in the United States. FIVE MILLION. That’s an awful lot of dogs and cats. That’s an awful shame.
At LABAH we are big spay/neuter advocates. We love dogs and cats and it breaks our hearts to know there are so many pet deaths that could - and should - be prevented. We recommend spaying females and neutering males at four to six months of age.
Declaw Education and Alternatives:
Declawing: Issues & Alternatives: a large collection of links with helpful information.
Reasons Not to Declaw: a great article written by Dr. Christianne Schelling.
Soft Paws: a humane alternative to declawing. Developed by a veterinarian, Soft Paws are vinyl caps that fit over your cat's claws. Safe and non-toxic. Ask us about applying them for you, and/or demonstrating how to apply them yourself.
Dietary Counseling for Medical Conditions:
The following are links to the manufacturer's websites for some of the prescription diets we carry in the clinic. They all have information about the diets, and expert advice regarding pet nutrition.
Royal Canin Prescription Diets
