First, we love dogs and cats. THEN we are a dedicated, talented team of vets, vet techs, admin staff, kennel staff and groomers. We are dedicated to the best interests of your pet and in love with dogs and cats.

LABAH was opened in 1989 by Dr. Robert Spitz.

He chose to open in a renovated house on Lake Austin Blvd for a number of reasons. One being that he believed dogs and cats would feel comfortable in a house rather than a bright clinical environment. The other for its close location to Town Lake running trail and Deep Eddy pool.

In 2002 LABAH expanded into the house next door. Creating a surgery center with expanded surgery, radiology, a blood machine, labs, dental room and x-ray facilities. It also allowed the original clinic to expand into more exam rooms, a bigger waiting room and an onsite grooming facility.

In the years since, the staff has expanded to fill all those rooms. Vets and techs and front desk and groomers. The unifying theme, when gathering the staff profiles for this website was integrity. We care about animal health and welfare. We care about customer satisfaction. We love dogs and cats. One of our staff wrote “I love working at LABAH because every animal is treated as if it were our own animal.” Oh yes!

Dr. robert l. spitz

Graduated from the University of Missouri in 1984. He worked with small animals and exotics for a year after graduating and then moved to a hospital specializing in orthopedics. It was after working for an emergency hospital for a few years that he decided to open his own practice in 1989. He desired a place where he could practice medicine that was in the best interests of the pet. He spends his time between Austin and Dripping Springs, making sure to get as much outdoor time as possible with his son Caleb,  dog Andy Fish and cats 1X, Ginkgo, Rascal and Speedy.  He has rescued parrots, horses and of course his dog and cats! Dr. Spitz has been taking some time off to spend more time with family and is taking appointments Monday through Wednesday.
